The first day of school can be nerve-wracking for some kids, especially when it’s also their first day at a new school. To help ease those first day jitters for new students in grades 1-6, we host a Newcomer Orientation a few days before school starts. Families who are new to town or transferring schools within Acton enjoy a tour of the school with Dr. Whitbeck and receive lots of useful information that will help them get acclimated to the Douglas community. Kids even get to pair up with returning students in their class or grade for a scavenger hunt around the school, where they learn everything from the location of their classrooms and the restrooms to where to find a bus pass and what the “C” in C.T. Douglas stands for (do YOU know?). This fun and informative event is a great introduction to the Douglas community for new students and their families.
(Hint -- the above guide might have some tips for Douglas veterans!)
