Walk for Peace (September)

Every year, Douglas students and members of the school community walk one mile to raise funds for peace and to celebrate the United Nations International Day of Peace.

On the day of the walk, we gather in the circle shortly after school starts and set off on our usual one-mile route through Indian Village. Parents are welcome to join.

Money raised from the walk is donated to Free The Children, the organization that Douglas School has partnered with to build schools in Kenya.  For more information about Free the Children, see www.freethechildren.com.

Many people have found our walk and ceremony to be meaningful. We hope we can continue to provide an opportunity for children and adults to take part in a positive and empowering action that draws attention to the need for peace—locally, and in other parts of the world.
